Book Blogger Appreciation Week is a week long even that celebrates the work and contributions of book bloggers. There’s a new blog topic each day, and I plan to actively participate. I’ll be back to regularly scheduled programming next week.
Monday’s Topic: We invite you to share with us about a great new book blog you’ve discovered since BBAW last year! If you are new to BBAW or book blogging, share with us the very first book blog you discovered. Tell us why this blog rocks your socks off and why you keep going back for more.
I’m going to bend the rules a little bit on this one and share three new blogs I found since last BBAW that I really enjoy.
First up is Amy from Amy Reads. I can’t remember when I found Amy’s blog, but one thing that sticks out to me is the great nonfiction reviews that she writes. They’re always thoughtful, analytical, and full of quotes. Reading her reviews is more like getting a discussion of the book, which I think is important in nonfiction reviews.
The second blog is Ash from English Major’s Junk Food, which is a very new to me blog. I think I connected with her during a Twitter #followreader or #bblog chat, but I can’t remember for sure. I like the variety of Ash’s reviews and the way she discusses books rather than just giving them a grade. I also like her feature Awesome Essays, where she talks about essays that she loves. It’s a feature I wish I’d thought of! if she does turn it into a meme, I’ll be a semi-regular contributor.
And the third blog I want to mention is Scott at some smart, some don’t. Scott reviews a variety of books, but what stuck out to me when I first found his blog was his impressive book database and charts sections. The nerd in me really, really admires them.
I could go on, but since I’ve already broken the rules I should cut myself off. Check back tomorrow for my BBAW interview with Donna from Holocaust Resources.

some smart some don’t is new to me! And I really enjoy Amy’s blog as well as Ash’s blog 🙂
I love Amy’s blog as well! Must go check out the other 2 now.
So many great recommendations floating around our book blogosphere today — must add these to my list of places to check out, too!
I love Amy’s blog, but I haven’t heard of the others. I’m off to check them out!
Great choices! I especially enjoy Amy and Ash, and I’ll check out your other recommendation.
Some Smart is new to me. I also love the idea of featuring essays at EMJF.
Seriously, I’m not going to get anything done this week because I will be reading all the awesome new blogs that people are mentioning. :p
I’ve just added Amy’s blog through a post, looking forward to following it. Both the others I’m going to check out now, the last I’ve never heard of.
Happy BBAW! 🙂

Thanks for mentioning my blog! I’ve been a bit lazy lately about posting, but I that just means I have a lot of drafts pending.
I’ll definitely be checking out the others you mentioned as well.
I featured Amy too! The other is new to me, but I’m off to check it out right now.
Great choices!!
I know Amy Reads, but I need to check out the other two blogs.
Great blogs to spotlight today. I need to check out Scott’s blog.
Thank you so much for including me and for the kind words Kim! I always feel I go on a bit too much with my non-fiction reviews in particular, so I’m glad to hear that someone likes them 😉 The other blogs both look incredible as well! Happy BBAW!
All 3 very interesting bloggers. Never heard of Scott. Will have to go check him out.
Thanks so much for mentioning me! I’ll have to check out Scott’s blog for sure. Glad to hear I have at least one semi-regular contributor if I turn Awesome Essays into a meme.
Great pics! I am so tired but still I keep reading blogs…. 🙂
I’ve been following Amy’s blog since BEA, but the other two are new to me and look very interesting. A little more food for the feed reader! Thanks!
I think that what you said about this being a perfect fall or winter read is perfect. As you were describing all the elements of the book, I was thinking the exact same thing. I’m definitely adding it to my TBR list – I love books that don’t really fit into a mold, books that are not quite like anything I’ve ever read before. It’s always nice to discover something new.
I’m checking out these blogs right now. Thanks for the awesome recommendations!
