The Sisterhood of the Summer Book Reviews — a project where my sister and I read and review each others favorite books — was supposed to just be a summer thing. However, our reviews were well-received and we had fun, so we decided to keep doing reviews together throughout the year.
We saw each other this weekend, so we decided to do a vlog talking about how we thought the summer went and introducing the next books we decided to read. I am so excited, even if the video is totally awkward and the book titles are backwards because I didn’t know how to adjust the settings. Enjoy!
The weird lighting is because it was day time and the sun kept peeking through the curtains. But other than bad quality, that was fun! Thanks for reading our reviews this summer and taking the time to watch our vlog π
P.S. If you missed our reviews they first time around here are the links to The Memory Keeperβs Daughter, The Truth About Forever, and The Time Traveler’s Wife.
UPDATED TO ADD: Here’s my review of The Secret Life of Lobsters from last December, if you’re interested in reading why I liked this book enough to make Jenny read it.

Very cute vlog, I liked the cameo at the end. It’d be fun to find a graphic novel or something for your non-reading bro to read with you two.
I think Kevin got misrepresented a bit π He does read some books, a lot of adventure novels, some fantasy like Eragon, but other than those books occasionally he’s not a big reader. It would be fun to do a read-a-long with him as well — I’ll be pitching the idea soon!
This was fun – seeing you and hearing what you sound like. We tried to make a vlog and never could edit it. What are you going to do with brothers?
I wasn’t sure if a vlog would be weird, but I do love seeing them on other blogs because you can get a sense of who people are. So I’m glad it was fun to watch!
Hi Kim,
Great video! Those books sound like some intense reading. Hope you both like them. Don’t know if you tagged memes or not, but you have been tagged. Hop over to my place, Just Books and check it out. Have a great evening!
Sherrie
I think they’ll be fun books; I know The Secret Life of Lobsters wasn’t a strain for me. I’m sure The Nanny Diaries will be fun too.
Best Vlog Ever!!!! Thanks for the fun times π
Ha ha π
You two are so adorable, lol! I read The Nanny Diaries a while ago and hated it, but I haven’t read the lobster book and that does look good! I’ll have to find your review.
As for the flipped image thing– were you maybe using a webcam built into a Macbook? Because there should be a setting to flip the video so it comes out right at the start (I know there’s one in Photobooth).
I should have linked to the review, duh! I just fixed that.
Thanks for the tip — after we made the vlog we looked at some of the settings for my webcam and figured out how to do it, we just had a “mirror” button checked or something. So next time, everything will be the correct direction.
What a cute idea!
Thanks π
You should have a new goal for 2010: Make Kevin like books. π
This is so cute! I love vlogs and getting to see what everyone looks like and sounds like. I want to do one, but I feel kind of silly. I don’t know what I have to talk about. Maybe I will read a poem!
I can’t wait to read your sister reviews and I love that you two are making each other read books that you normally wouldn’t read. I’m jealous you have a sister so close in age! All mine are at least 7 years younger. And while my sister who is 14 and I get along pretty well and talk on the phone, it’s such a big gap! She loves to read though, and maybe I can convince her to do a joint review sometime!
Excellent goal. I think he’d have fun doing a reading thing with us over the summer, so I’ll be pitching the idea.
I felt silly doing this one, and so did Jenny, but it was fun. I love watching them and getting a sense of who people are — you should do one!
I think doing a book with a 14-year-old sister would be fun, especially a YA book. It might be cool to get a perspective of someone who is supposed to be the target audience of the novel versus an older opinion.
It’s fun to see you in the flesh, um, so to speak!
Ha ha, yeah, so to speak π
I am the lone reader in my family. Sometimes my sister will raid my shelves when she is visiting, but not very often. So, it’s great that you guys read together!
I actually want to read the lobster book… lol
As you should, the lobster book is awesome!
This is great, Kim! so fun that your sister was willing to do the vlog with you (and the brother action was fun, too).
We all enjoy seeing each other’s vlogs, to put the voice to the face and writing style. Yes, they can be awkward to make, but nobody’s is hoping for an Academy Award out of them. Keep ’em coming!
Yes, she is great (and Kevin is too, in his own unique way π ). I love seeing vlogs, even if they’re awkward. Hopefully the face and voice in the video match up with the writing voice on the blog.
Awesome vlog! I haven’t yet crossed that blogging frontier, but I always enjoy watching them.
I mooched Secret Life of Lobsters last year on your recommendation, but it’s still in the TBR pile. Maybe I’ll have to read along with your sister!
I hope you post one soon, it’s fun!
I’m so excited you got the book because of a recommendation — that makes me feel great! I hope you can move it up and let us know what you think, it’s fun.
JENNY = ROCK STAR!!
Dear Jenny, I loved the lobster book and really hope you enjoy it. I’ve read the Nanny Diaries, too, but liked the lobster book much better. (Btw, they found a beautiful blue lobster last week off the coast of RI – they are SO COOL!!!)
Anyway, LOVED this vlog and look forward to MORE!
Yes, Jenny is a rock star. I could not have a cooler sister. I’ll pass your message along to her in case she’s not checking comments anymore.
I am reading the comments… and yes I am a ROCK STAR/Pretty darn cool!! I also could not have a cooler sister π
I think I am going to start the Lobster Book tonight… but we will see
