Yup, that’s right, it’s officially Spring Break for students at UW-Madison so this Dork is finally taking a break! Sister and I are leaving for San Francisco on Sunday morning to visit some of my friends from college, so I won’t be blogging much. I will be posting the BIP Week 5 Social Media Carnival, and the task for Week 6, but that’s pretty much it.
Sister is studying architecture at the University of Minnesota, so we have plans to visit some exciting architectural buildings. The biggest one is the California Academy of Sciences (left), a recently opened green building in Golden Gate Park. The roof is a green roof, and is designed to blend in with the surrounding vegetation. It also has hills, which Sister says is hard to do.
I, on the other hand, am looking forward to some of San Francisco’s famous bookstores. I’m not sure how many we’ll get to, but City Lights Bookstore, Shakespeare & Co Books, and Isotope Comics are all on my list. And of course we want to see the Golden Gate Bridge, take a tour of the Bay, and just spend some time sitting around. I’m looking forward to it a lot.
I’ve got a lot of books to read while I’m gone too: The Braindead Megaphone by George Saunders, I Was Told There’d Be Cake by Sloan Crosley, The Bullfighter Checks Her Makeup by Susan Orlean, along with the rest of the Twilight series on audiobook if my eyes get tired. Now that I’ve written a list down I won’t get to any of those books, but oh well, that’s the fun of having a giant TBR pile and plans to buy more books.
Anyway, enough babbling, I have a ton of packing and cleaning and planning to get done before our flight on Sunday morning. I’ll be back in about a week!
So readers, any suggestions of where to go or what to do in San Francisco? Packing suggestions?

I’ve never been to S.F. so I can’t give you any suggestions. You are so lucky! My spring break isn’t until next month. Have fun!
I’ve never been to California, let alone San Francisco, so I have no suggestions. I hope you have a fabulous time.
Have fun!!!
One piece of advice: enjoy!
Thanks everyone, I’m really excited!
Have fun! I’ve never been to San Fran, but it was my grandfather’s favorite city and he talked about it all the time. Take lots of pictures! 🙂
Have fun! My boyfriend is going to S.F. later this week too but I doubt you’ll run into him at any of the bookstores!
