Giveaway and Celebration: My 100th Post!

I started this little blog in May 2008, and have finally reached the auspicious marker of 100 blog posts!  In honor of this exciting moment, I’ve decided to hold my first two giveaways.

The first prize is a copy of any book I have read and reviewed on this blog. This prize is available only to bloggers in the U.S. and Canada (for shipping cost reasons). The second prize is a $15 gift card to Amazon.com, and is available to people anywhere in the world, because I think that will work, right?

You can gain entries into these fabulous drawings in a number of ways:

EDITED TO ADD: You don’t have to do all of these things, you can just post a comment saying you want to be entered; the questions and linking and whatnot are all optional ways to get more entries.  Got it?

Leave a comment on this post letting me know you would like to be entered.  Everyone will be automatically entered for both drawings, but please let me know if you live abroad so I can be sure to give you the international prize if you win!

Link to this post talking about my giveaway, and leave a link to your post in the comments.

Answer any/all of the following questions about my blog. Please answer all questions in the same comment, and number your answers so it is clear how many questions you’ve answered.

  1. How did you find my blog (Weekly Geeks, a link, random surfing, something else)?
  2. What is one specific thing you like about my blog?
  3. What is a favorite or memorable post from this blog?
  4. What is a favorite topic I blog about?
  5. What is one specific thing you think I could do better?

Each answer is worth one entry.  I’m doing this for a couple of reasons: I think it encourages people who are regular readers to comment thoughtfully on my blog, and I like getting feedback on ways this blog can get better.

So, if you do all of these things, you can have up to 7 entries (if I did my math correctly).  Anyone who enters on this post who has already voted in my subtitling poll will also get an additional entry.  I’ll choose the winners randomly, either via Random.org or an old-fashioned drawing out of a hat.  This contest is open through midnight on November 9, 2008.

And finally, thank you so much for reading.  I love writing and reviewing, but don’t think it would be half as much fun without all of the support and comments from my fellow book bloggers!

Oh man, the first entry never wins. Oh well, please enter me. I’m not going to answer all of your questions, but I found you through BBAW and the first thing that struck me was the name of your blog – I love it! Your posts are fantastic – I hope to read hundreds more.

Congrats on the blogpost no. 100. Would love to enter your little giveaway.

I live abroad (in Copenhagen, Denmark)

    1. I found your blog through either a simple search for books+blogs OR through a link in one of the other blogs which turned up in my search.

    2. I specifically like that you blog about books.

    3. I can’t really comment on that, as I haven’t been a regular reader for so long yet.

    4. Reading (and your studies)

    5. That I honestly don’t know either (re. comment 3)

I began blogging a couple of years ago, and because I have so many English speaking friends, I decided to blog in both English and Danish in two separate, but identical, blogs. This soon became too much as I had other things going on in my life and never really had time to blog anyway. A few weeks ago I took up blogging again, and I desperately hope to get into it for real.

I am currently back in school after working for about 10 years and now only works half time, having switched careers a couple of times. I hope to receive an MA in humanities very soon, just need to get that thesis out of the way….

Heck, you didn’t even ask for a life story. Sorry 😉

Oooh! I’d love to be entered! Congrats! I’ll have a link to this entry in a couple of days.

    1. I think you found mine first, during the HTR&W “sign up”?
    2. I like how you ask questions that make us think: a new way of thinking about books and/or reading.
    3. I remember the autobiography/memoir discussion. But that post on the book banning thing was memorable too!
    4. I like book reviews! And journalism really is interesting, but I don’t know much about it so I dont’ have comments all the time.

    I’m passing on number 5. I don’t know.

    Congrats on your centapostary!

    1. I probably saw your blog title in someone else’s blogroll and laughed. That’s something I would do.

    2. I love the comics and pictures you post. Sometimes when I get to someone’s blog and all they have is text, not even the cover of the book their reviewing, I’ll skip it. Ok, let’s face it, I do this all the time.

Also, your grammar and spelling are good. I can’t underscore too heavily how dear this is to my heart.

    3. The diagramming Sarah Palin one, which I somehow missed the first time around (must have been when bloglines was down). I love a good diagrammed sentence.

    4. Obvs book reviews.

    5. Come hang out with me!

I think I found your blog through Weekly Geeks. Either that or BBAW.
One specific thing I like, the thing that first kept me coming back, was the fact that you live in Madison, which was my hometown.
I think my favorite post has been the one you recently wrote about Bird by Bird.
I like it when you blog about writing, both the process and your accomplishments.
And something you could do better is to add me to your blogroll. 🙂

  • Teresa November 1, 2008, 4:19 pm

    1. I just found your blog today, through a link from Rebecca Reads, but we seem to read a lot of the same things, so I’ll be adding you to my reader.
    2. I LOVE the title. I also like the kinds of books you read, so I’ll probably enjoy reading your reviews.
    3. Your review on Everything Bad Is Good for You is right on.
    4. My favorite thing about any book blog is the book reviews, so I’m guessing that would be the case with your blog too.
    5. Having just found you today, I don’t really have any helpful feedback, but I do hope you can finish reading In Defense of Food and post a review before long. I just listened to the audiobook of Omnivore’s Dilemma and am interested in reading this as well.

I would love to be entered! Congrats on your 100th post!~

    1. Random surfing =)
    2. I love the pictures you put up with the post and the clean feeling of your blog. It gets annoying to load sites that are filled with to the brim.
    3. Currently this post and the Watchmen post…been dying to read it, it sounds fantastic!
    4. I love all the topics about books XD especially the book reviews.
    5. Nothing much really that I can think of right now. Do you think you can add a rating at the end of your reviews? Like 4/5 stars and such? I just like those type of ratings 😉

  • Care November 2, 2008, 4:45 pm

Please enter me! I have no idea how I first got introduced to you. My favorite thing about your blog is the name – very memorable. You blog a lot about literary journalism which I find quite interesting. I don’t have a favorite post. I appreciate that you respond to comments and visit my blog to leave comments. You are INTERACTIVE and thoughtful. Congrats on your successful book blog!

    Enter me please!

    1. How did you find my blog. I just found your blog from a link on Care’s Online Book Club. I really love it though and have added it to google reader.
    2. What is one specific thing you like about my blog? I like the clean cut design and even more so, the way you have your goodreads currently reading books as an rss feed instead of the book covers. I think I may do that if you could tell me how.

    Thanks

Please enter me. I just found you a couple of weeks age, so I haven’t read many of your posts. I think I probably clicked on your name when you commented on someone else’s blog (which is the way I normally troll for new book bloggers). I know I was impressed enough to subscribe to your feed, so that has to count for something!
