Book Blogger Appreciation Week

I cannot get the buttons for Book Blogger Appreciation Week to work, I’m not sure why, so I’m just going to have to go without them (sorry!).  Basically, BBAW is an event organized by Amy at MyFriendAmy to celebrate book blogging and the community it’s created.  In her welcome post to the event, Amy wrote,

The gloom and doom news tries to tell us that reading is dead, we say look at our addiction. We transform reading books from solitary activities to shared conversations through our blogs. We carve out extra time to share book club tips, interview authors, and learn about the technical aspects of blogging. Our blogs are like a part-time job and the only payment is the pleasure we get when someone takes us up on a recommendation.

There are a ton of giveaways, book blogging activities, and other events to check out across the books blog community.  It’s pretty awesome, and although I’m not really doing a ton to participate, I’m excited to be included nonetheless.

The first activity Amy put up today is to make a list thanking the book blogs that you love to read.  I have quite a few on my Google Reader feed, but I’m just going to name a couple of book bloggers that have really made me feel welcome and excited to join the book blogging community.

  • Rebecca at Rebecca Reads — Rebecca always has really insightful things to say in her posts, and has made me feel a part of the book blogging community because of her dedication to responding to comments.  I also started to join her on a personal challenge, How to Read and Why, but have gotten sidetracked with school.  I’m going to catch up though!
  • Kim L. at Bold. Blue. Adventure. — I think Kim’s link to one of my reviews was the first time I got referenced for writing a review someone appreciated.  It was a hugely exciting moment for me as a newish book blogger (I’ve only been writing since May).
  • Becca at The Inside Cover — I also really love Becca’s posts and her online book club.  I always read that, even if I haven’t gotten to participate yet.  Becca’s comments on my blog have also really made me feel appreciated as a book blogger.
  • Dewey at The Hidden Side of a Leaf — I wouldn’t have found most of the blogs I read without joining Weekly Geeks, so I have to give a huge thanks to Dewey for that.  I know her blog isn’t under-appreciated, but I still think it’s good to hear “thank you” whenever possible.

There are quite a few other blogs I read on a regular basis — you can see them in my blogrolll — that I don’t quite have time to think individually because I’m scurrying out the door for a job meeting/interview today.  So instead, one huge giant THANK YOU for all of your wonderful book blogging!

I’m so glad that you like what I have to say! I just click Publish and wonder sometimes!

I really enjoy your blog, too and I hope you still get time to read while in school!

  • theexile September 16, 2008, 3:00 am

And thank you for being an interesting read. And good luck in grad school and on the interview.

  • Kim September 16, 2008, 1:55 pm

theexile: Thank you for the thank you and the luck. I think the interview went well yesterday, but we’ll have to see. It’s hard to tell with stuff like that, and they had 10 candidates for the position.

  • dew September 18, 2008, 12:55 am

I’m so glad you’ve made some blogpals via weekly geeks. 🙂 Thanks for thinking of me!

  • Kim September 18, 2008, 1:44 pm

dew: And thanks to you too, Weekly Geeks is awesome!

  • Kim L September 19, 2008, 3:33 am

Aw thanks for mentioning me. When you start out, it is so much the little things that make a difference. I still remember getting a blog award for the very first time. In so many ways, I still feel like a baby blogger.

  • Kim September 21, 2008, 12:32 am

Kim L: You’re right, it is the little things. We must all feel like “baby bloggers” most of the time!
